Stock Market Game 1- Initial Investment Strategy

My Strategy is to search for a company that the stock is increasing. I'm planning to buy yahoo stocks and General Motors stocks. The main strategy I have is that it should be a stable company, I prefer to invest in public companies instead of private companies. Public companies are more stable and I know that the is very hard for the stock to decrease. Private companies are probably cheaper but the stock prices can decrease very rapidly.
